Eliminate Property Taxes
In 2019, the City Council identified ways to make our community attractive to business, commerce, and new families. One item they identified is if we raised our sales tax by .75% we could eliminate the City’s property tax levy. That small change has paid off for the City as we are the fastest growing community in Southern Illinois.
School Safety Officers
Marion Unit #2 School District, the Marion Police Department, and the City of Marion continue to partner to ensure our students, staff, and faculty are safe by placing an sworn officer in every school in Marion Unit #2 School District. This partnership continues to bring our families peace of mind and adds to the quality education every student receives from our educators.
Revitalization and Development
With many of the City’s TIF districts expiring over the next decade, the Council has looked for ways to energize our economic development efforts both with a massive $10M redevelopment of our Downtown and through investment in private development around the former Illinois Centre Mall. With these investments, the Council is investing in decades worth of transformations that will build a better community for the next generations.
Building and Code Services
The former Code Enforcement office has been transformed into Building and Code Services which delivers a more comprehensive approach to building, development, and ordinance violation corrections throughout our growing community.
