Building and Code Services

Building and Code Services assist with keeping our community appearance in-line with the city code.  Building and Code Services has many different roles.  Some of their many duties include performing property inspections, issuing various permits that pertain to development within the city, issuing citations for code violations such as high grass and weeds, trash and debris, abandoned and/or derelict vehicles, etc.

Building and Code Services also perform all inspections and issues permits for all rental properties whether they are a short term rental or a long term rental.

WHEN IS A PERMIT NEEDED AND WHAT PERMIT DO I NEED?

• Residential Building Permit – Any new construction ex: new home, storage building, garage, carport, deck, porch
• Demolition Permit – Tearing down any type of building
• Dirt Hauling Permit – Any dirt being hauled into the city
• Excavation Permit – Any time a curb, sidewalk or street will be cut or for a new building requiring water and/or sewer
• Commercial Building Permit – Any new construction or interior remodel
• Commercial Occupancy Permit – New business, change of ownership, or relocation
• Signage – New sign installation or relocation of a sign
• Pool and/or Fence Permit – Installation of a pool or fence

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER A NON-OWNER-OCCUPIED PROPERTY?  IF SO, HOW OFTEN?  IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NON-OWNER-OCCUPIED PROPERTIES?

• All properties must be registered annually by January 31^st

• Residential rental properties are inspected once every 3 years. There is a $50 per unit fee
• Short Term, Vacation and Bed and Breakfast rentals are required to be inspected twice a year. There is an annual $250 license fee per property as well as a $50 inspection fee.

WHAT IS THE GRASS HEIGHT LIMIT AND HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO MOW IT ONCE IT IS POSTED?

• The grass height limit is 8” per the city code
• You have 7 days to correct the violation
