Commissioner Barwick serves as the Public Health and Safety Commissioner for the city. He has served in this position since elected in April 2019. Responsibilities include overseeing Animal Control, Marion Fire Department and Marion Police Department. Duties include ensuring training and safety equipment are available, providing policy oversight and assisting those departments with future planning.
Commissioner Barwick is a lifelong resident of Marion and is a retired Master Sergeant of the Illinois State Police, having over 26 years of law enforcement experience. Commissioner Barwick has invested in the city over the past 30 years as a developer and home builder in his spare time. Commissioner Barwick is proud of his family, his wife Pam of 44 years, son John and daughter-in-law Joni, his daughter Amber and son-in-law Aaron and his six grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Jaylee, Taylor, Hayley and Logan. He loves spending time with his family, attending Church at Southern Illinois Worship Center, attending Marion Wildcat sporting events and riding his Harley-Davidson.
